A long time ago there lived a daughter-in-law who was widowed at a young age. Her parents insisted that she remarry, but she did not comply, and instead devoted herself to the care of her widowed and ill father-in-law. Her parents, tired of waiting for their daughter, one day sent her news that her mother had passed away. The daughter-in-law prepared porridge for her father-in-law and headed to her parents’ home, where she learned that she had been set up as part of her parents’ plans for her remarriage. The daughter-in-law headed home that night, upset, and the journey across mountains and rivers was difficult in the dark. That was when a tiger suddenly appeared and carried her on its back, transporting her back to her in-laws’. Upon returning, the daughter-in-law further devoted herself to caring for her father-in-law, and one day in her dream, she learned that the tiger had fallen into a trap and was dying. The daughter-in-law found the tiger and rescued it.

The narrative is a morality tale that emphasizes the lesson of filial piety.
